About SmartStarts

The MedCost SmartsStarts Program is an outstanding prenatal education program that employers can provide as a benefit for their employees.

The program provides expectant mothers with maternity education from a prenatal nurse. Program participants receive a password that gives them online access to the educational information they are most likely to need during each trimester of their pregnancy. Program participants may also call a toll-free number that allows them to speak with a MedCost prenatal nurse whenever they have a question. In addition, a prenatal nurse may make outbound calls to check up on participants at key times during their pregnancies. As a result of these program features, high-risk pregnancies are usually identified early, making a positive outcome more likely for both mom and baby.

Women are strongly encouraged to contact SmartStarts as soon as they know they are pregnant. A prenatal nurse will administer a brief phone assessment and enroll those that are eligible for the program.

If your employer has purchased the MedCost SmartStarts Program, it will cost you (or your covered spouse) nothing to participate in this highly beneficial maternity education program. To enroll, just call 800-722-2157 and select option 5. We will be happy to answer any questions you have!
