Consistent with many TPAs and carriers, MedCost was impacted by the Change Healthcare cyber attack that occurred earlier this year. MedCost is committed to providing the most accurate, up-to-date, and user-friendly cost information. Change Healthcare, a subsidiary of UnitedHealthcare, temporarily mitigated risk by disabling its machine-readable file (MRF) hosting site and cost transparency tool. In late June, MedCost received notification that Change Healthcare permanently discontinued the cost transparency tool.
Prior to Change Healthcare’s most recent announcement, MedCost had initiated a selection process for a new transparency partner. We are pleased to share that MedCost has selected a new partner for our cost transparency tool and MRFs. Our new partner has successfully made our MRFs publicly accessible; MRFs can be downloaded via the Transparency in Coverage Machine-Readable Files link found in the footer of MedCost.com. We anticipate launching the cost transparency tool in Q4 2024.
To ensure uninterrupted access to cost data during this transition, health plan members can request personalized member cost estimates through the secure MedCost member portal. Simply log in and select Healthy & Whole to access the Transparency in Coverage Regulation Inquiry.
MedCost is committed to providing the information health plan members need to make informed healthcare decisions. If you have any questions or require assistance accessing cost information, please contact your MedCost Account Manager.
