Submission of Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, and Certified Nurse Anesthetist Claims for MedCost Benefit Services
MedCost Virginia does not credential Advanced Practice Providers (APP), Nurse Practitioners (unless he/she has a Virginia Autonomous License), Physician Assistants, and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists. MedCost can process claims billed under the names of Nurse Practitioners who have a Virginia Autonomous License and are credentialed by MedCost. All other Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists must file claims under the applicable collaborating/supervising provider in order for the claim to be processed in network.
Effective immediately, MedCost will no longer mail back claims that were filed incorrectly under the APP name. Please ensure your billing department is aware of this filing limitation so that MedCost members do not receive out-of-network benefits.
If you are a Nurse Practitioner who is licensed by both the Boards of Medicine and Nursing and would like to be enrolled to bill directly, please apply to join our network.
