Change Healthcare Nationwide System Outage – EDI Claim Submissions (837I and 837P) and Patient Eligibility - North Carolina/South Carolina

On February 21, 2024, MedCost became aware of a systems outage at Change Healthcare (CHC) due to a cybersecurity event. All connections between MedCost and CHC have been suspended until CHC is able to assure us that it is safe to resume service.

Claims Filing

We understand that providers and hospitals that use CHC for electronic claim submissions are unable to submit due to this outage. Providers impacted by the CHC outage may elect to submit claims to MedCost via Availity, our exclusive EDI partner. Availity is offering Availity Lifeline as a resource to help providers self-serve with Availity Essentials™ registration and performing key transactions. Once enrolled, providers will be able to submit batch uploads for claims (direct entry currently unavailable). Click here for more information on EDI claim submissions via Availity.

Eligibility and Claim Status Inquiries

MedCost has multiple payer partners that offer resources to help provide eligibility  and claim status information for members. MedCost Network providers can find this information for MedCost Benefit Services members here. Links to other payer partner websites, when applicable, can be found here
